Music Lessons at the Jones House

The Boone JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) music program takes place at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center on Thursday afternoons and evenings throughout the year.

The program features music lessons for fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and dulcimer taught in small groups by local masters of old-time and bluegrass styles from the region. Students age 7 and up, including adults, may enroll in classes, which are typically focused on beginning through intermediate playing levels.

Tuition rates vary, but typically average around $5/lesson for kids and $10/lesson for adults. The 45-minute classes begin as early as 4:30 pm in the afternoon on Thursdays, and they continue until the weekly old-time jam begins at 7:30 pm. The calendar year typically includes three sessions (15 - weeks from February - May 5 - weeks in June - July; 15 weeks from August - December).

Private lessons are available throughout the year and are scheduled on a one-on-one basis.
