#ThisPlaceMatters
The month of May every year is set aside as Preservation month. Downtown Boone has so much to celebrate when it comes to preservation and the history in our little town, and are pleased to participate in the national campaign spearheaded by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, #ThisPlaceMatters.
On May 4th, 2018, as part of our monthly First Friday Art Crawl, we had five members of our Historic Preservation Committee share oral histories of five buildings in our downtown. You can read the scripts from those shared oral histories, as well as view photos of the different buildings over time, but clicking on the following links:
- The Appalachian Theatre – located at 559 W King Street
- The Jones and Winkler Buildings (now Mast General Store) – located at 630 W King Street
- The Linney Law Office (now Down to Earth Massage) – located at 718 W King Street
- The Historic Post Office – located at 680 W King Street
- The Old Watauga Jail (now Proper restaurant) – located at 142 Water Street
