Looking Ahead: Week of May 26

  • Crews will resume work on Tuesday, following the Memorial Day holiday. They’ll be working four 12-hour days through Friday, weather permitting.
  • The week will start with work in the intersection, as crews prepare the area for asphalt. Once that layer is in place, the intersection will reopen.
  • Sewer line installation will continue, as the crew works to complete the section started last week.

Why can’t water and sewer lines be installed at the same time?

Water and sewer lines must be installed at different depths and kept a safe distance apart to meet public health regulations. This separation helps prevent contamination if a line were to break. In a space as tight as Howard Street, it simply isn’t feasible to dig a trench wide or deep enough to install all utility lines at once. As a result, the work must be completed in carefully sequenced stages.

Progress from Last Week

  • A significant stretch of new sewer line was installed, running from the intersection at Depot Street down Howard Street toward Burrell.
  • New, wider concrete sidewalks were poured in the intersection area, improving both walkability and aesthetics.

Additional Updates

  • Thanks to the Town’s Public Works team for recent improvements to navigation through the alleyway behind construction.
  • We’re continuing to explore new locations for additional wayfinding signage. If you have suggestions for placements that would help customers and visitors better navigate downtown, we’d love to hear them!
