This Week
Duct bank work is beginning this week, marking a major step in moving overhead utilities underground. While this phase is more detailed and slower moving than previous utility work, it plays a key role in the long-term improvements to Howard Street, including the eventual removal of utility poles.

Crews are beginning work behind Footsloggers and moving toward Appalachian Street. Progress is steady, though not fast, due to the precision required for this type of infrastructure.

As this work gets underway, nearby parking areas are beginning to see impacts. A plan is in place to help manage access, but there are times when parking availability is limited. Updates are shared as specific impacts become clearer.

Other Nearby Work (Appalachian Street)
Water line replacement work on Appalachian Street is continuing. Recent weather and equipment challenges have created some delays, and work in this area continues to impact traffic flow.

Crews aim to maintain at least one lane of traffic, though conditions may shift depending on equipment and staging needs. Adjustments are made as needed throughout the week.

Last Week
Weather causes some delays early in the week, and crews address areas affected by heavy rainfall. Even with those challenges, progress continues with preparation for the duct bank installation.

To date, more than 3,200 tons of aggregate, AKA gravel, have been used on the project. Crews continue addressing potholes as conditions allow, though recent freeze-thaw cycles make maintenance more challenging.
