This Week
Starting Monday, crews will work to complete the remaining underground utility box work near the Estes House and the back of the King Street Lot.
The last significant section of duct bank installation is expected to take place along South Depot Street early this week, primarily in the parking spaces where the water line was previously installed. Please anticipate intermittent road closures and temporary traffic impacts in the South Depot area while this work is underway.
Once this installation is complete, crews will begin cleaning out the conduits and preparing the duct bank for use by the various utility providers.
Last Week
Last week largely focused on wrapping up the primary duct bank installation work along Howard Street. While there are still a few remaining pieces to complete, we are getting very close to the end of this major phase of construction.
Special Note: Transition Into the Next Phase
As the project moves into the next phase, there will likely be a bit of an adjustment period as multiple utility companies begin mobilizing to transition lines from the existing overhead infrastructure into the new duct bank system.
Because this portion of the project involves coordination between several different utility providers, timelines and work activity may evolve as details are finalized. We will continue doing our best to keep everyone informed as information becomes available, and we appreciate everyone’s continued patience and flexibility during this transition.
Additional Nearby Work
While not directly related to the Howard Street project itself, crews are also expected to begin patching sections of Appalachian Street this week. As a result, there may be intermittent lane closures or temporary traffic impacts in that area as well. Please don’t hesitate to call with any questions 828-268-6283.
