This Week
Crews have returned to the section of Howard Street between FizzEd and Footsloggers. The primary focus this week will be excavating, forming, and pouring the concrete bands that will help define both the roadway and streetscape in this area. If all goes according to plan, crews are also hoping to place asphalt in this section of the roadway.
Once work in this area is complete, similar activities and traffic patterns will continue moving west along Howard Street toward Appalachian Street.
Last Week
While the original plan for this section of Howard Street evolved slightly, the adjustments were made to better accommodate the amount of vehicular traffic accessing the parking lots along this portion of the corridor. In addition to installing the concrete roadway borders, crews completed additional concrete work now to help avoid multiple closures and disruptions later in the project.
Perhaps the most exciting development is that we have officially entered a new phase of the project. After many months focused on the underground infrastructure that most people will never see, crews have begun work on the hardscapes, including sidewalks and other visible streetscape elements. While there is still plenty of work ahead, we are finally starting to see pieces of the finished project take shape, giving us our first real glimpse of what the completed Howard Street corridor will look like.
