THIS WEEK

We have a big week ahead on Howard Street as we move into what we hope will be a major paving push. As always, paving is weather dependent, but right now the schedule remains on track and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the weather cooperates!

Today, crews are milling Appalachian Street. The road will close this morning while that work is underway, with plans to reopen it later this afternoon/evening.

If everything goes according to plan today, paving will begin Tuesday on Appalachian Street and continue onto Howard Street toward Depot Street. There will be some intermittent access issues as crews work their way down the road, but the good news is that asphalt doesn’t require the same curing time we’ve been dealing with for concrete and paver sand. Once an area is paved, it should be able to reopen within a few hours.

Wednesday, crews are scheduled to mill South Depot Street between King Street and Rivers Street, with paving and additional work continuing later in the week. The goal is to keep traffic moving through Howard Street as much as possible while crews work through each section.

There are a lot of moving pieces packed into these few days, and each day’s progress will help determine what happens the next. We know this will come with some temporary disruptions, but getting this final layer of asphalt down is a pretty exciting milestone for the project!

There are certainly still pieces to finish, but we’re checking off some pretty big items right now and continuing to inch closer and closer to the finish line! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions 828-268-6283
