Crews will continue working from the Depot Street side toward The Hope Center, with hardscape work underway throughout this area. Work will include pouring the concrete base for pavers, continuing asphalt work for the bike lanes, and building out the roadway.
The goal is to make enough progress to get this section of roadway reopened. As always, that timeline will be weather dependent, but we’re hopeful for another productive week!
The section of Howard Street between Appalachian Street and Depot Street is now open and has officially transitioned back to a one-way road. After months of navigating changing construction patterns and temporary two-way traffic, we know it may take a little time for everyone to adjust. Please use a little extra caution and pay attention to the new traffic pattern and signage as you travel through this area.
A Quick Note About the Utility Poles
We’ve started hearing some questions about why utility poles are still standing in areas where much of the new hardscape and roadway work has been completed.
The new underground infrastructure is in place, but each utility provider still has work to complete as they transition their services from the existing poles into the new underground system. The poles are not Town property and will ultimately need to be removed by the individual utility providers.
So, while they may look a little out of place as the new streetscape continues to take shape around them, they are not permanent and will be removed as the utility companies complete their work.
