This Week

A quick reminder that Appalachian State is on fall break today and tomorrow.

Freedom ElecTech plans to begin installing the new streetlight poles where possible, starting at Appalachian Street and working toward Burrell Street. A few of the smaller poles should be able to be installed by hand, while the larger 28-foot poles will require equipment. Crews will work from the sidewalks as much as possible, though there may be some temporary traffic impacts as equipment is positioned.

The road striping crew is also expected back toward the end of the week to begin marking the roadway, bike lanes, crosswalks, and other areas. Some temporary traffic impacts and closures will be needed while that work is underway. Updates will be shared if the schedule changes.

Another big milestone: New River Light and Power has moved all of its services into the new underground duct bank! Their next step will be removing the overhead wires from the utility poles. There isn’t a schedule for that work just yet, but more information will be shared as it becomes available.

The final stretch of paving is also complete! Crews continued working on the wiring for the power stations and new streetlight poles as well.

There’s still work happening throughout the project area, but it’s great to see some of these big pieces getting checked off the list.

Thanks, as always, for your patience and flexibility as work continues! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions 828-268-6283.
